UltraCare Grout Refresh is a nonflammable, ready-to-use, water-based, polymer-modified colorant and sealer for grout joints. It can be applied onto and bonds to cement, epoxy, urethane and acrylic grouts.
It's important for the existing grout to be porous and completely clean before applying MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh. So the first step is to clean the existing grout using a heavy-duty, tile and grout cleaner. Next, test the porosity of the grout with a few drops of water. If the grout does not absorb the water drops within a few minutes, this indicates that the grout was probably sealed. Note: UltraCare Grout Refresh will not bond to sealed grout.
In order for MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh to bond effectively, all sealers on the existing grout must be removed. MAPEI recommends contacting the sealer manufacturer for removal instructions.
If the existing cement-based grout was mixed with an additive such as MAPEI’s UltraCare Grout Refresh, the grout should be scrubbed clean using a grout brush and an acid-based, heavy-duty tile and grout cleaner. Follow all directions for the cleaner, neutralize the grout area with water and allow it to dry completely before the application of MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh. Note: Do not use acid-based cleaners with installations of natural stone.
MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh can be applied over ready-to-use (pre-mixed) grouts such as MAPEI Flexcolor ® CQ grout. It's important for the surface of the grout to be completely clean. An alkaline-based, stone-safe cleaner is recommended for cleaning MAPEI Flexcolor CQ.
MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh can be used to change a white grout to a black grout, or a dark brown grout to a light beige grout, etc. Typically two coats are needed when making a drastic color change.
MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh is approved for use on shower floors.
MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh can be used in exterior applications if the space is properly sloped and has good drainage. It’s important that the area remains free of standing water (puddles) after rain or sprinklers.
UltraCare Grout Refresh is not recommended for use in pools or other submerged areas.
The best way to apply UltraCare Grout Refresh is with a small artist’s paintbrush. Keep a damp sponge nearby to wipe off the excess UltraCare Grout Refresh from the tile surface as you go. UltraCare Grout Refresh can also be applied using a small piece of sponge, a foam applicator or a toothbrush, depending on the width of the grout joint.
UltraCare Grout Refresh has a built-in sealer and does not require additional sealing.
The use of floor steamers and other heat-producing cleaning machines are not recommended over applications of MAPEI's UltraCare Grout Refresh.
