Putting a positive spin on Monday at Pitt River middle

Pitt River middle school students were greeted by smiley faces and positive messages when they entered their Port Coquitlam school Monday.

The entire school was blanketed with these posters and cards and no one knows who is behind the Random Acts of Kindness gesture.

Principal Steve Roos says the school culture is positive and he's not surprised to see the notes.

Principal Steve Roos says the school culture is positive and he's not surprised to see the notes.

But several students said the effort to raise the spirit of the school so close to the end of the school year had an amazing effect.

"It's a great way to make someone happy," Grade 7 student Lauren Jadot said.

"Also, when we're learning things there is a positive energy in the classroom," added Grade 6 student Lucas Angelozzi.

Rianna Wang, a Grade 8 student, said the positive messages that said "Smile — Today is Your Day" makes the "heart feel warm."

In addition to the putting up smiley face posters and cards at the school, more than 400 members of the Pitt River middle school population handed out 3,000 lollipops and handmade book marks with positive messages to members of the community last Thursday.

"It was a phenomenal day for the Pitt River middle school students, staff, and community," said teacher Kiren Chand.

But the fun didn't end there because when the students returned to school, there was iced tea and rice crispy squares waiting for them donated by Starbucks and Sysco Foods.

The treats were arranged by the anonymous group that also put up the happy face posters on Monday.
